Design for 'Meson Forces'  Pratchett 1971 (paint on black card)

I specialised in perspex sculpture from 1967-71 at Trent Park College. Many of my sculptures involved the process of vacuum forming, which I did at the manufacturing company, Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI). This is a process in which the perspex is heated in an oven until it becomes soft and flexible and then placed over a mould inside a chamber, which is then sealed. The air is then quickly extracted by pump and the perspex is pulled by the vacuum down over the mould. As the perspex  cools it becomes rigid again and takes the shape of the mould. In many of my sculptures, the mould used was a half-sphere. To create a full sphere two half spheres were then glued together.
